I still remember seeing the Northern Lights in Alberta for the very first time in 2008.  Simply put, it took my breath away.  In the lights that are constantly moving and changing form, I see spiritual images dancing across the sky.  Quietly observing the dance of the lights in the sky, the Inukshuk reassures that you are on the right path.

The snow has already begun to melt on a misty morning in early spring. A swift fox makes his way through the trees, rocks and stumps that are slowly appearing from beneath a thick blanket of snow. He stops for a moment and looks around, something has caught his attention, possibly the sound of a rabbit hopping in the snow.

The painting is of children playing outside in Tuktoyaktuk after a snowfall.  My mother said that sometimes the snow would be piled as high as the roof, and you could climb up and slide down the side of the house.

This painting represents a family heading home from visiting family and friends. My Mother growing up in Tuktoyaktuk said her and her many sibling each received one gift, it was always a piece of clothing. Anything from a new pair of Mukluks her mother had been working on for months, or a beautiful new parka cover or pair of Mitts.

In Tuktoyaktuk my mom said that it was a tradition for families to go out door to door and shake hands with the rest of the community wishing them a Merry Christmas. As a child I remember looking for Santa on Christmas Eve in the sky. So this is just a fun painting depicting Santa flying over Tuk.

We can all relate to having a great snowball fight as kids. Quickly building a fort after a fresh snowfall, and neighbourhood kids joining in the fun. Trying to keep up with making snowballs, as you fire back on the enemy as fast as you can. A great team always helps!

When my family moved close to town so that I could go to school my mother discovered that she had a passion for making costumes...for Halloween parties at school and for the big Christmas skating carnival. She read somewhere that the British Grenadiers guarding Buckingham Palace wore bear fur busbies. The result was my dad shot a bear, I won first prize (a quarter!) with my Grenadier costume, and my mother made us eat bear meat for half the winter. I hate bear meat.

A source of food and clothing for my family. In the Fall, my Mom would spend a week tanning the hide and many more weeks making winter boots for us. Some of the meat was dried...a form of jerky...and what we couldn't eat right away was shared with neighbours.

This is my most favorite painting to date. It was quite a challenge to get to the top of Twin Falls which inspired the work and it was a pleasure to sit and compose the image you see before you. It was one of my first experimentations, in combination, with another of my passions...the Aurora Borealis. Many stories are told in my culture about the Northern Lights.

Even though centuries have passed you can still see remnants of aboriginal occupation in the Rockies, in the form of petroglyphs, preserved on cliff walls and rocks. The drawings could have been the result of a vision quest, perhaps, in a time before it was evident that they were a part of a history on the edge.

I painted this picture after several trips to Banff and experiencing, first hand, many perfect nights sitting around a campfire. This particular location is near Saskatchewan Crossing between Jasper and Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. After having lived in Banff now for several years there are times when we are closer to wolves and other large animals than one is comfortable with, but nothing compares with the howl of a wolf in the middle of a perfect night.

It is a celebration of the cycles of life and the connections that the spirits of the animals have with the mythical ‘Thunderbird’ and creation. The Thunderbird is a spiritual entity that once readily existed which has the same symbolic meaning as Jesus Christ.
