Early Morning Drink – CK005

Product Code: CK005
Occasionally, one can be in the midst of a convergence of circumstances that generate a memory for life. What you see before you is my recollection of one such instance. On an early foggy morning, as my father and I made our way to one of his work assignments we crept along a road that led us by a small lake and in the distance the sun emerged out of a peaceful dense mist. My child’s imagination saw more, as I imagined a horse and warrior in the midst of an early morning drink.

Misty Morning - AKR005

The snow has already begun to melt on a misty morning in early spring. A swift fox makes his way through the trees, rocks and stumps that are slowly appearing from beneath a thick blanket of snow. He stops for a moment and looks around, something has caught his attention, possibly the sound of a rabbit hopping in the snow.

The Old Ones told me that when it is time for me to go on the hunt, I must fast for four days and four nights.

I must give of myself to see what spirit I will carry on my first hunt. They also told me that on the fifth morning efore the sun comes up, I must offer my finest arrow to the Sky Beings for guidance. I am grateful to the Old Ones.

I am grateful to the Sky Medicine.

Product Code: NK010
When my family moved close to town so that I could go to school my mother discovered that she had a passion for making costumes...for Halloween parties at school and for the big Christmas skating carnival. She read somewhere that the British Grenadiers guarding Buckingham Palace wore bear fur busbies. The result was my dad shot a bear, I won first prize (a quarter!) with my Grenadier costume, and my mother made us eat bear meat for half the winter. I hate bear meat.

In Tuktoyaktuk my mom said that it was a tradition for families to go out door to door and shake hands with the rest of the community wishing them a Merry Christmas. As a child I remember looking for Santa on Christmas Eve in the sky. So this is just a fun painting depicting Santa flying over Tuk.

SkyDance Series - Littlelight Eagle - AKR009

I still remember seeing the Northern Lights in Alberta for the very first time in 2008.  Simply put, it took my breath away.  In the lights that are constantly moving and changing form, I see spiritual images dancing across the sky.  This painting is inspired by Dit’oni tsitl’a (which means “Little Eagle”), whose name was given to him as a baby by the late David Crowchild, former Chief of the Tsuu T’ina People.
